The Institute for American Studies invites you to take part in a three-day course on Statistical Methodology and Data Science. The course instructor is Jesse Richman, Associate Professor at Old Dominion University.

Students in this course will learn about quantitative methods in the social sciences, specifically statistical methods. They will be exposed to the inner workings of the statitstical software SPSS.
Students will undertake practical book and computer-lab exercises that require critical thinking and analytical skills and develop skills to identify, construct and analyze many types of data to illuminate relationships between variables and test theoretically derived hypotheses.
They will also learn about key methodological choices and application tools to stretch and strengthen students’ quantitative research muscles.
The course is aimed at doctoral students and researchers, but interested faculty and advanced master’s students may also take part.
The course is free for attendees, but advanced registration is required.
The course will be held in English. The course material of the three days builds on each other.
