A Habsburg Ottó Alapítvány és a Nemzeti Közszolgálati Egyetem John Lukacs Intézete konferenciát szervez, amelyre ezúton tisztelettel meghívjuk
A Habsburg Ottó Alapítvány 2025 tavaszán „80 év béke, 35 év demokrácia” mottóval szervez rendezvénysorozatot, amely a 20. századi Európa politikai, gazdasági és társadalmi fejleményeit és annak napjainkra gyakorolt hatását járja körül. A beszélgetések az európai és nemzetközi rendet jelentősen alakító történelmi fordulópontokra összpontosítanak majd.
Az első alkalom a berlini fal 1989/1990-es leomlását eseménytörténeti és középtávú perspektívából egyaránt vizsgálja, mind a közvetlenül a berlini fal leomlásához vezető fejleményeket, mind pedig az 1970-es évek óta zajló folyamatokat, amelyek jelentősen elősegítették a keleti blokk felbomlását, megnyitva az utat egy egységes Európa előtt.
A konferencia keretében három kötet kerül bemutatásra: Horst Teltschik 1989 és 1990 közötti naplója, amelyet Helmut Kohl egykori tanácsadója Michael Gehler hildesheimi történésszel közösen jegyez; Breier Zsuzsa sokoldalú elemzése az akkori eseményekről; valamint Andreas Schmidt-Schweitzer forráskiadványa a nyugatnémet-magyar kapcsolatokról az enyhülés időszaka után. A meghívott szerzők további szakértőkkel és egykori meghatározó politikai szereplőkkel karöltve átfogó bepillantást kínálnak azokba a sorsdöntő folyamatokba, amelyek a hidegháborút követően a mai Németország és Magyarország útját egyengetik.

From Détente to the Wall’s Downfall
With the motto of “80 years of peace, 35 years of democracy”, the Otto von Habsburg Foundation is organising an event series in spring 2025 to address the political, economic and social developments in Europe in the 20th century and examine their impact on the present. Pivotal historical moments that have significantly shaped the European and international order will be at the centre of the discussion.
The first event in the series focuses on the turning point of 1989/1990 from both an immediate and a medium-term perspective; including an examination of the rapid developments that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as the processes that had been taking shape since the 1970s, which accelerated the collapse of the Eastern Bloc and paved the way for a united Europe.
Three publications will be presented during the conference: Horst Teltschik’s journal from 1989–1990, penned by the former advisor of Helmut Kohl together with Michael Gehler, a historian from Hildesheim University; Zsuzsa Breier’s multi-faceted analysis of the historic events; and Andreas Schmidt-Schweitzer’s sourcebook on West German–Hungarian relations following the period of détente. The invited authors, along with other experts and former leading political figures, will provide a comprehensive insight into the decisive factors that paved the way for Germany and Hungary to become what they are today after the end of the Cold War.

Von der Entspannung bis zum Mauerfall
Unter dem Motto „80 Jahre Frieden, 35 Jahre Demokratie“ organisiert die Otto-von-Habsburg-Stiftung im Frühjahr 2025 eine Veranstaltungsreihe, die sich mit den politischen, wirtschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen Europas im 20. Jahrhundert und deren Auswirkungen auf die Gegenwart befasst. Im Mittelpunkt stehen historische Schlüsselmomenten, die die europäische und internationale Ordnung maßgeblich geprägt haben.
Die Auftaktveranstaltung der Reihe betrachtet die Wende von 1989/1990 sowohl aus einer ereignisgeschichtlichen als auch aus einer mittelfristigen Perspektive: Dabei werden sowohl die unmittelbaren Entwicklungen beluechtet, die zum Fall der Berliner Mauer führten, ebenso wie die seit den 1970er Jahren wirkenden Prozesse, die den Zusammenbruch des Ostblocks beschleunigten und den Weg für ein geeintes Europa ebneten.
Im Rahmen der Diskussion werden drei Bände vorgestellt: Horst Teltschiks Tagebuch aus den Jahren 1989/1990, das der ehenmalige Berater Helmut Kohls gemeinsam mit dem Hildesheimer Historiker Michael Gehler verfasst hat; Zsuzsa Breiers facettenreiche Analyse der damaligen Ereignisse; sowie Andreas Schmidt-Schweitzers Quellensammlung zu den westdeutsch-ungarischen Beziehungen seit der Entspannungsperiode. Die eingeladenen Autoren werden gemeinsam mit anderen Experten und ehemaligen politischen Schlüsselakteuren einen detaillierten Einblick in die entscheidenden Prozesse geben, die nach dem Ende des Kalten Krieges den Weg für das heutige Deutschland und Ungarn geebnet haben.
