A nyílt felhívásos, kétnapos nemzetközi konferencia célja, hogy a 19. századi Kelet-Közép Európa és a Balkán szabadságküzdelmeinek, forradalmainak, szecessziós törekvéseinek és a modern nacionalizmusnak a viszonyrendszerét megvizsgálja, különös tekintettel e konfliktusok jelentőségére a politikai gondolkodásban, irodalomban és a tömegkultúrában. A konferencia elsődleges célja, hogy a forradalmi események reprezentációit és újraértelmezési kísérleteit, valamint ideológiai és mítoszteremtő törekvéseit vizsgálja, mintsem az, hogy történészi hitelességgel rekonstruálja, hogy milyen események történtek valójában.
