A book launch about the history of conservatism with the author’s presentation and a conversation with him is going to take place in the Research Institute of Politics and Government.
The title of the recently published book is:
Francesco Giubilei: The History of Conservative Political Thought (Gateway Editions, 2019)
After a presentation by the author, the director of the Insitute, Prof. Ferenc Hörcher will lead a conversation with the author about the book.
The event is going to be opened by Dr. Bernát Török, director of the Eötvös József Research Centre of the National University of Public Service.

About the book:
The book traces back the European tradition of conservative political thinking. It offers a clear but detailed picture of the main lines of the colourful history of European conservatism, from its birth, through its growth up to an evaluation of its momentary situation. It can be especially interesting for the Hungarian readers to see, how the Italian writer, unlike the usual English-speaking narrative which looks at the continental political scene from above, makes an effort to describe in a vivid manner the different (English, French, German, Spanish and Italian) national versions of it. The book can be used as a reference volume, providing short chapters about the key authors, which, when read together, guides the readers in this historical tour in an exciting manner. It also provides ample opportunities to reflect on some of the issues which are still with us today.
About the author:
FRANCESCO GIUBILEI is an author, publisher, and professor based in Italy. He is the president of the leading Italian conservative foundation Fondazione Tatarella, a writer for the newspapers Il Giornale and Il Messaggero, and a professor at the University G. Fortunato Benevento. Giubilei was recently included in Forbes’s list of 100 most influential youths in Italy under 30. He is the author of six books. The History of European Conservative thought is his last book.

A most bemutatásra kerülő, angol nyelvű kötet a 21. század felől tekint vissza a konzervatív politikai gondolkodás európai hagyományára. Arra törekszik, hogy közérthetően és árnyaltan mutassa be az európai konzervativizmus színes, sokágú történetét, születésétől kibontakozásán át pillanatnyi helyzetének értékeléséig. Különösen fontos lehet számunkra, magyarok számára, hogy egy olasz szerző alkotásáról van szó, aki nem a kontinensre kissé felülről tekintő angolszász narratíva felmondására törekszik, hanem megkísérli az európai hagyományok különböző (angol, német, francia, spanyol, olasz) változatait is érzékletesen leírni. A kötet kézikönyvként is jól használható, egyben olvasva pedig izgalmas utazásra csábít a múltban – ráadásul úgy, hogy mai kérdéseinkkel kapcsolatban is számos fontos meglátásra bukkanhatunk lapjain.
